Commission for Jewish Education’s ‘Stay at Home Gala’ is the nonevent of the season

The nonprofit Friedman Commission for Jewish Education of the Palm Beaches is encouraging local philanthropists to forget about tuxes and gowns this busy social season and instead enjoy a quiet evening at home and support the organization with what would have been spent on a lavish gala.

“Rather than ask our supporters to attend yet another event during the height of the Palm Beach gala season, we wanted to give them a night off and an opportunity to support Jewish education,” says CJE executive director Dr. Penny Beers.

Money raised through the Friedman Commission for Jewish Education’s “Stay at Home Gala” will help support an array of services and learning opportunities provided by the agency. These include Hebrew school for children with special needs, adult learning programs, professional development for synagogue, support for preschool and day school teachers, and other collaborative programs.

“The ‘Stay at Home Gala’ will make a greater impact on our community without the expenses of a large-scale society event,” Dr. Beers says.

Co-chairs of the “Stay at Home Gala” are long-time CJE supporters Hope Silverman and Debbie Shapiro. The pair cochaired last year’s 25th anniversary gala.

“Last year was all about celebrating a milestone, and it was spectacular to see the community support for CJE. This year, we want to foster that support … by reaching out to both current and new donors,” says “Stay at Home Gala” cochair Debbie Shapiro.

“There are many nonprofits who do wonderful work, but CJE holds a special place in my heart because of the education it provides for all ages in our community,” says co-chair Hope Silverman. “That’s important for potential donors to know. We want people to follow our lead and give to CJE without hesitation.”

“Stay at Home Gala” invitations have been mailed, and the organization is encouraging donations of $360 per person, which was the cost of attending the agency’s gala last year.
