Duncan Theatre

Once again, the Duncan Theatre amazed us with a dizzying array of performances that showcased the finest in cutting-edge dance, chamber ensembles, and vintage popular and rock music concerts during its just completed 30th anniversary season.

Just when you think the masterful line-up of modern dance companies couldn’t surpass prior seasons, the Duncan Theatre delivered a strong and diverse series representing the contemporary art form. From Philadanco’s socially relevant and topical dances to Cuba’s Malpaso Dance Company’s introduction to Palm Beach audiences to the return of L.A.’s hottest company — Bodytraffic to the breathtaking acrobatics and antics of MOMIX’s Opus Cactus, the offerings amazed and enthralled the community. The Classical Café series featured the Florida premiere of the Shaw-Magnussen Duo (cello and piano) and the return of the Vienna Piano Trio.

Popular music offerings were equally diverse with concerts by Tony Award nominee Jarrod Spector, early rock ’n’ roll icon Chubby Checker, an Australian Circus inspired by a classic rock soundtrack, the inventive creations of “America’s Got Talent” finalist William Close and The Earth Harp, bluegrass phenom The Hillbenders transforming The Who’s “Tommy” from rock opera to Bluegrass Opry, and original band members and studio musicians of Billy Joel’s early acclaimed albums — The Lords of 52nd Street — transporting us back to 1970 through classic Grammy-winning tunes. As in the past, we can hardly wait to learn what is in store for Palm Beach County audiences next season! The Duncan Theatre is at Palm Beach State College, 4200 Congress Ave., Lake Worth; 561-868-3309 or
